In April 2019, Bianca and Iris visited the Scottish capital Edinburgh! On average it rains here about 250 days a year so we were surprised with three warm and sunny days! In this article we share our 7 Edinburgh highlights.
1. Edinburgh Castle
You cannot ignore Edinburgh Castle. The castle sits on one of the city's hills and is therefore clearly visible. The castle functions as a museum and you can view the Scottish Crown Jewels here! We only admired the castle from the outside. See more? Order your tickets online via this link .
2. The Royal Mile
The Royal Mile is Edinburgh's most famous and colorful street! You will find the street between the castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. On the Royal Mile you will find countless shops, restaurants and historic buildings. Really a tip to stroll around!
3. Carlton Hill
Carlton Hill is a hill that is home to many iconic moments and buildings, such as the Nelson Monument, the City Observatory and the National Monument of Scotland! From this hill you have a beautiful view of the city.
4. Arthur's Seat
Do you want to look even higher? Then visit Arthur's Seat. The hill is 251 meters high and was created by volcanic activity about 350 million years ago! You have to climb a bit, but then you once again have a fantastic view of Edinburgh and its surroundings.
5. Princes Street Gardens
Edinburgh has a historic but also a modern center. There are many shops in both where you can shop. Ready for some rest? Between both centers you will find the Princes Street Gardens, where you can take a break and watch passers-by.
6. Dean Village
Dean Village was once not part of Edinburgh, but the village has been part of the city since the 19th century. The district is characterized by narrow, winding streets with cobblestones. It is very picturesque and a nice area for walking.
7. Circus Lane
Circus Lane also falls into the category of charming streets! You will find the street in the Stockbridge district. It is a narrow street with beautiful stone houses and beautiful ivy. Also definitely worth a visit!
